The global art fair Frieze is set to open a
new exhibition platform, Frieze House Seoul, this September in the Yaksu-dong
in Seoul. Modeled after No.9 Cork Street, Frieze’s permanent exhibition space
in London, this venue will host a year-round program of curated exhibitions,
performances, and short-term residencies.
Occupying a total area of 210 square meters
across four floors, Frieze House Seoul is housed in a remodeled residence
originally built in 1988. The space comprises two main galleries,
sculpture-focused interior areas, and an outdoor garden designed to accommodate
special programs. The architectural design was led by Seoul-based firm Samuso
Hyoja, with construction overseen by OUR LABOUR.

Frieze House Seoul aims to move beyond
being a fair-driven, event-based venue to function as an experimental art
platform that fosters connections between Seoul’s local art community and the
global art world.
Frieze’s Global Fairs Director, Kristell
Chadé, commented, “Frieze House Seoul represents a natural extension of
Frieze’s presence in Korea. Seoul has already emerged as a major hub in the
global art market, and through this space, we hope to build deeper engagement
with the city’s vibrant local art community.”
Patrick Lee, Director of Frieze Seoul,
added, “Frieze House Seoul will serve as a platform for shared creativity and
experimentation, and as a new meeting point between Korean and international
art. We hope it becomes a space that reflects Seoul’s unique cultural energy
and spirit of innovation.”

Frieze House Seoul will open in time for the launch of Frieze Seoul 2025, and will host events such as the Frieze Live performance program, along with other satellite programs taking place across the city. In addition, Frieze House Seoul is currently seeking galleries to participate in its inaugural season of programming. For more information, please visit the Frieze website((https://www.frieze.com/).
