DrawingRoom presents Part I of its 7th anniversary exhibition, 《Till 7, From 7》, on view through March 28. With this exhibition, DrawingRoom brings together eight artists who have been introduced through its annual flagship initiative, the Emerging Artist Support Program, which has remained at the core of the gallery’s programming.

The exhibition also offers an opportunity to reflect on the past and present of DrawingRoom, which has shaped its direction and identity since its founding in 2019 through ongoing collaborations with emerging artists. The excitement and tension that have accompanied each exhibition’s preparation are here expanded into “a small festival celebrating the everyday.”

In Part I of the exhibition, works by four artists previously selected for the Emerging Artist Support Program—Minsu Kim, Jieun Roh, Donghoon Rhee, and Heejae Lim—are highlighted.

As a first-year selected artist, Donghoon Rhee persistently explores not so much what to paint as how to paint, prompting reflection on the very attitude of painting itself. His practice raises questions about stance prior to form, demonstrating the potential for sustainable growth through processes of accumulation and expansion.

Selected in the program’s second edition, Heejae Lim presents metaphors for human desire through the motif of taxidermied animals. By intersecting the surface quality of the pictorial plane with the materiality of desire, her compositions compel viewers to confront both the object of their gaze and what lies beneath it.

Presented as a two-person exhibition, Minsu Kim and Jieun Roh began from different cultural backgrounds and artistic media, yet each articulated a distinctly contemporary sensibility characteristic of artists born in the 1990s through their own wit and approach. Developed over the course of a year of dialogue, the exhibition became, as its title suggests, a moment in which the two artists’ “humming” resonated in harmony.

《Till 7, From 7》 sets forth from this very accumulation of time. Just as the Emerging Artist Support Program has done over the past seven years, DrawingRoom has conceived this exhibition as a small festival that once again celebrates each artist’s practice within the rhythms of everyday life—adding a light cadence to the time that has passed.
