Pipe Gallery presents 《Threshold》, a group exhibition featuring
Chansong Kim, Jihyun Im, and Wonhae Hwang, on view through October 31.
A threshold is both a boundary that divides a space and a surface
where different senses and forms of existence encounter one another. What
appear to be distinct—inside and outside, reality and image, object and
painting—meet across a threshold, and in that encounter, their established
boundaries no longer remain fixed.
This exhibition focuses on this sense of the in-between. Through
the works of the three artists, it examines what emerges where different
surfaces and sensations meet, and how such contact unsettles and transforms the
boundaries through which we have come to understand the world.

The three artists look at different worlds through their distinct
interests and visual languages.
Chansong Kim explores the relationship between existence and the
world through bodily sensation and the materiality of skin, while Jihyun Im
transforms forms derived from natural objects and plants through painterly
gestures, revealing the unstable relationship between object and image. Wonhae
Hwang captures reflections, distortions, and moments of rupture across
architectural skins and urban surfaces, translating into painting scenes where
reality and image intersect.

With different points of departure and visual languages, the three
artists engage with surfaces and sensations situated at boundaries, each
showing that a boundary is not a fixed line but a site of contact and
transformation.
《Threshold》 focuses on the moments when,
through the encounter between these different practices, the boundaries through
which we have habitually divided the world begin to shift and open onto new
sensations.
