Gana Art Hannam is presenting 《Clearview Mechanism》, a solo exhibition by
artist Goo Gijeong, whose practice explores the relationships between humans,
nature, and machines. The exhibition runs through October 25.
Through photography, graphics, video, and installation, Goo
Gijeong transforms familiar natural landscapes into unfamiliar forms through
technological mediation, focusing less on the finished image itself than on the
conditions and processes through which it is formed.

The exhibition brings together recent works that question how the
scenes we see are constructed, from works that reveal the conditions through
which an image is formed to those that place real and virtual plants side by
side to examine the relationship between the virtual and the real.
《Clearview Mechanism》 traces how a scene
comes into being, exploring how what we perceive as reality is constructed.
“Clearview” refers to a way of seeing that allows us to view an object clearly,
while “Mechanism” points to the conditions that have made such a view possible.
Ultimately, to see clearly is also to consider how a scene has come to appear
the way it does.

What 《Clearview
Mechanism》 ultimately withholds from view is none other
than the finished scene itself. What remains in its place is an ongoing process
of change, while the viewer’s gaze, which continually reinterprets what is seen
and how it is seen, functions as the final mechanism that sustains that change.
