NOON CONTEMPORARY presents 《Apple and
Knife》, a two-person exhibition by Changchang Yoo and
Jungah Kim, on view through March 28.
The
exhibition focuses on opposing emotions that coexist within a single gesture.
It considers states that remain open yet not entirely unguarded, where intimacy
and distance are held together within painting.

Although the two artists construct the surface in different
ways, their works converge in that they do not settle into a fully closed or
resolved state. In Jungah Kim’s compositions, materials are loosely connected
yet form a singular structure, while in Changchang Yoo’s paintings, figures
coalesce into one configuration without being fixed into a single, definitive
meaning.
One reveals the conditions of relationships through materiality;
the other through imagery. Yet in both cases, these relationships are never
clearly prescribed, instead maintaining a constant sense of distance and
tension.

An apple and a knife may be placed together in a single hand,
yet their meaning is never fixed. They may suggest generosity, or they may
signal caution. Upon a surface that never fully closes, relationships are
formed even as they remain suspended.
Just as the apple and the knife rest within the same hand, these
works, too, turn toward one another while maintaining a measured distance. In
the space between them, sensation is not explained but left to linger and
endure.
