On the 9th, Hyundai Card announced the opening of the first-ever MoMA Bookstore in Seoul’s Apgujeong district, featuring a curated selection of books and merchandise from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

The MoMA Bookstore is the world’s first and only retail space dedicated exclusively to MoMA-published books. It offers approximately 1,100 volumes across 200 titles, including exhibition catalogues, as well as art, design, and architecture publications, alongside select design products.

Visitors to the MoMA Bookstore can explore exhibition catalogues carefully selected by MoMA curators, monographs of contemporary artists, and other specialized publications that trace key developments in modern and contemporary art. The store also features iconic design items and lifestyle products from the MoMA Design Store, combining expertise, rarity, and accessibility in one destination.

Hyundai Card and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York have made the MoMA Bookstore itself a unique experience. Books with vibrant, eye-catching covers are prominently displayed to allow visitors to engage with art indirectly, while digital content showcasing current exhibitions at MoMA enables visitors in Seoul to explore works being shown in New York in real time.

The collaboration between Hyundai Card and MoMA began in 2006 with the launch of Korea’s first MoMA Online Design Store. After supporting several exhibitions over the years, the two formally established an official partnership in 2010.

Over the past 20 years, this partnership has expanded comprehensively. Hyundai Card has been the exclusive sponsor of over 50 major MoMA exhibitions, and MoMA curators have participated in selecting titles for the “Hyundai Card Design Library” and “Hyundai Card Art Library.” Beyond sponsorship, the partnership extends to curator exchanges and research between Korea and the U.S., as well as supporting the discovery of promising Korean artists, broadening the scope of collaboration across multiple fields.

A Hyundai Card representative stated, “The MoMA Bookstore is a one-of-a-kind space established on the foundation of 20 years of trust between MoMA and Hyundai Card. We hope that many art enthusiasts will not only understand the history of modern art through MoMA’s books but also experience contemporary art firsthand.”

The MoMA Bookstore is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Customers using Hyundai Card can receive a 10% discount on books and merchandise, and M Points can be applied for discounts of up to 20%.
