“Horizon” Installation view ©Vohm Gallery
Vohm Gallery presents “Horizon”, a solo exhibition by LIM Sodam, on view through August 16.
In this exhibition, the artist presents new paintings that metaphorically explore the existence and specificity of painting through the horizon and the surface of the water, which are objects that can only be observed with the eye and have no fixed substance. LIM has been preparing for this exhibition for nearly a year, completing a total of 30 paintings and small ceramic sculptures that explore the possibilities, limitations, and meanings of pictorial representation. Five of the paintings will be presented at Vohm Gallery, while 17 will be presented at Hall 1 in an exhibition of the same name. The artist’s solo exhibition of the same name at Hall 1 (8, Yangpyeong-ro 22-ma-gil, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul) will be on view until August 8.
LIM Sodam (b. 1985) has been consistently interested in visualizing invisible elements such as bodily sensory memories through drawing and making, and the contradictions that arise from them. LIM majored in painting at Kookmin University and currently lives and works in Ilsan, Korea.
Since her first solo exhibition at KT&G SangSang Madang Gallery in 2011, she has held solo exhibitions at Gallery Scape, Project Space Sarubia, and DrawingRoom, and has participated in exhibitions at Kumho Museum of Art, Gallery 175, Art Space Pool, Ilmin Museum of Art, and other institutions. LIM’s works are in the collections of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation and Kookmin University.
