Frieze has announced its most extensive program for the third edition of Frieze Seoul, taking place 4 – 7 September 2024. Spanning live performances, films, and talks, the program also sees events across the Korean capital.
Frieze LIVE
New this year, Frieze LIVE’s inaugural edition is titled “신·경(神經): ‘Nerve or Divine Pathway’.” Curated by Je Yun Moon (Project Director, Art Sonje Center), Frieze LIVE runs at COEX throughout the fair, with five performances by seven artists.
Each performance explores how movement, sound, and visual elements can extend poetic expression, transforming the human body into a language, and poetry into a multisensory experience. The featured artists are Cha Yeonså, Jesse Chun, Hong Ji Young, Jang Sumi and Kim Wonyoung & Project YYIN (Rha Sinae, Choi Kisub).
EMAP x Frieze Film 2024
Entitled ‘All that Weaves the Universe: Of Quantum Entanglements’, Frieze Film 2024 presents works from more than 20 international artists and considers the interconnectedness of the human and non-human. Those featured include Yin-Ju Chen, Vitória Cribb, Léuli Eshraghi, Ayoung Kim, Alison Nguyen, Josefa Ntjam, Naomi Rincón Gallardo, Yuyan Wang, Xu Zhan Zhang and Zheng Bo.
Curated by Joowon Park (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) and Valentine Umansky (Tate Modern), and jointly presented with outdoor media arts festival EMAP (Ewha Media Art Presentation), Frieze Film takes place in Ewha Womans University’s historic gardens from 2 – 6 September. Frieze Talks in Association with Kiaf SEOUL and KAMS
Running from 5 – 7 September at COEX’s Studio 159, this annual series, in collaboration with Kiaf SEOUL and KAMS, addresses the most pressing issues in the art world today. Topics range from the power of biennials, feminism in Asian art and the evolving role of curators in galleries.
Non-Profits in Collaboration with ARKO
To celebrate Seoul’s diverse art scene, Frieze is collaborating for the second year with ARKO to support activations by 16 non-profit spaces on Thursday 7 September, creating an international networking platform for artists, curators and organizers. With Korea’s two biennials coinciding with Frieze Seoul 2024, the spaces showcased will include non-profits from Gwangju and Busan
