As the year draws to a close and a new one begins, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) once again transforms into a vast stage of light.

”Seoul Light DDP 2025 Winter” welcomes visitors as an open, inclusive winter festival, centered on large-scale media facades and site-specific installations unfolding across DDP’s iconic architectural curves.

This year’s theme,〈Everglow: A Place That Shines Forever〉, reflects the idea that light, space, and human warmth come together to form a shared place. More than a media art exhibition to be simply viewed, the project expands into an immersive environment—one to walk through, linger in, and experience throughout the entire DDP complex.

DDP Comes Alive as a Christmas Town

This winter, DDP is reimagined as a warm and radiant Christmas Town. Waves of color and light wash over its monumental architecture, transforming the plaza into one of Seoul’s most distinctive winter destinations.

Glittering lights and installations appear throughout the site like gifts left behind by Santa, while DDP’s seasonal mascot, ’HIP Santa,’ welcomes visitors with a special bundle of surprises. Characters and objects that seem to emerge directly from the media facades extend beyond the building surfaces into plazas and pathways, turning the entire site into a continuous narrative space.

Six Winter Stories Told Through Media Facades

Seoulful Winter

Seoul’s beloved city characters, ’Haechi and the Soul Friends’, bathe DDP’s winter nights in warm light.

The newly redesigned silhouette of Haechi opens the work, followed by the Soul Friends inspired by the Four Guardian Deities, conveying messages of empathy, communication, and hope. Through the interplay of color, pattern, and music, the piece portrays Seoul not merely as a metropolis, but as a welcoming home.

A winter tale created with globally loved characters—LINE FRIENDS, minini, and ZO&FRIENDS.

Bathed in light and gentle emotion, small moments shared by these characters unfold across DDP, adding a soft smile to Seoul’s year-end atmosphere.

Photo Zones, Installations, and the Joy of Walking

Beyond the media facades, photo zones and spatial installations are scattered throughout DDP.

Sculptures and illuminated objects inspired by HIP Santa’s “gift bundles” offer ever-changing scenes, encouraging visitors to discover a different Christmas moment at every turn.

In particular, DDP Luminarie on the Future Path bridge connects seamlessly with the building’s media facade, allowing visitors to experience—up close—the moment where light and architecture converge.
