Incheon Art Platform is presenting 《Nocturama: Valentin’s Ax》, a solo exhibition by Yeom Jihee,
the recipient of “The Incheon Artist of the Year 2024” award, on view until May
18.
Yeom Jihee primarily uses collage as her
artistic language, drawing inspiration from literature, philosophy, personal
experiences, and dreams. This exhibition focuses on over 60 new collage
paintings created during her residency at the Incheon Art Platform studio
following her selection as Artist of the Year.

The exhibition title, 《Nocturama: Valentin’s Ax》, draws from two sources: the term “nocturama,”
meaning a zoo for nocturnal animals, and a performance by German comic actor
Karl Valentin (1882–1948), in which he famously destroyed the stage mid-act.
Yeom Jihee views nocturama as a stage of life where fact and fiction coexist,
and like Valentin, she metaphorically breaks holes in that stage through the
illusory images created by her collages.
In this way, 《Nocturama: Valentin’s Ax》 offers a glimpse into the artist’s
ongoing exploration of illusion and existence, as well as the blurred
boundaries between life and death.
