SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation has announced the line-up of SONGEUN's upcoming exhibitions for 2024. The first exhibition in 2024 will be "Cadenza," a solo exhibition by artist Youngjoo Cho, winner of the 20th SONGEUN Art Award, in March.

The artist, who has been presenting comprehensive performances dealing with identity and relationships, will present a project on the production, reproduction, and distribution of female images, which will be divided into aspects of women's labor, migration, and identity. By linking women's labor with exercise, massage, games, tapestry, and chorus to resonate with a wider audience, and by mixing media such as live video images, archival video images, and live performance, the artist investigates the meaning of various media in the museum space and the relationships and structures between the artist, audience, collaborators, and staff.

This May, SONGEUN will host an exhibition by Swedish duo artists Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg. Winners of the Silver Lion Award for young artists at the 53rd Venice Biennale, Nathalie Djurberg and Swedish composer Hans Berg have gained international recognition for their exploration of human animal desires through shocking and mesmerizing stop-motion animations featuring clay figures and hypnotic soundtracks.

The two artists blur cinematic, sculptural and performative boundaries by combining video and music with related sets and sculptures to form immersive environments. The exhibition, which will be co-curated by Mario Mainetti, curator of Fondazione Prada, will be the first in Korea in 15 years since Nathalie Djurberg's solo exhibition "Turn into Me" at Prada Transformers in 2009, and will present surreal dreamscapes that reveal the emptiness and desire of contemporary life.

In September, SONGEUN will present an exhibition of the collection of François Pinault, founder of the Kering Group and owner of the art auction house Christie's. The Pinault Collection, which inaugurated the Bourse de Commerce-Pinault Collection in a former trading floor in Paris in 2021 to share its collection with the public, holds more than 10,000 works of modern and contemporary art. In 2011, for the first time in Asia, the collection was presented at SONGEUN (formerly SONGEUN Art Space) in the exhibition "Agony and Ecstasy," and now, 13 years later, it is once again on view in Korea.

The exhibition will feature approximately 60 works by David Hammons, Marlene Dumas, Peter Doig, and others who have never been shown in Korea before, as well as international contemporary artists such as Miriam Cahn, Anicka Yi, Danh Vo, and Félix González-Torres. The exhibition will be curated by Caroline Bourgeois, chief curator of the Pinault Collection.

In December, the 24th SONGEUN Art Award, SONGEUN's annual program and exhibition, will be held. The SONGEUN Art Award has been an annual art prize since 2001 to discover and support talented contemporary Korean artists, and the call for the 24th SONGEUN Art Award will be open from February 19 to February 23, 2024. Currently, SONGEUN is holding the "23rd SONGEUN Art Award Exhibition," which opened on December 13 and will continue until February 24.
