Art
Sonje Center presents 《Haneyl
Choi: Sleepwalking》, on view through December
27 at Space 1.
Haneyl
Choi works primarily in sculpture, exploring questions of desire, social norms,
and self-perception that shape human existence.
He
approaches the human subject not as a coherent or self-contained whole, but as
a site where conflicting desires, wills, and impulses become entangled, with
particular attention to the points where individual interiority intersects with
social order.

After
seeing the cross-section of his own injured finger, Haneyl Choi began exploring
the interior of the body hidden beneath the skin, as well as bodily rhythms
that fall outside conscious control.
The
exhibition focuses on moments of rupture in everyday life when body and
consciousness fall out of sync, as in hypnic jerks, drunken lurching, and
sleepwalking.
