Faction is presenting 《Proxy is my Lover》, a solo exhibition by Ridane Lee, an artist who has worked across multimedia practices including video, sculpture, and installation, through September 1.

Ridane Lee has structurally examined the fixation of (female) images within digital platforms, exploring ways of refracting the media technologies that produce “typicality” through various artistic media.

The artist focuses on how images of women are mixed with marginal elements such as the nonhuman, queer identities, subcultures, and specific places within online environments, where they are often consumed in superficial ways.

By exposing the technical flaws and fractures of difference that various imaging devices attempt to conceal, Lee twists and disrupts the voyeuristic gaze embedded within digital platforms.

《Proxy is my Lover》 seeks to challenge the dominant media systems that produce fixed audiovisual images and “stereotypes.” The exhibition dismantles the technologies that currently constitute major media forms, including the structures of digital platforms, generative AI imagery, and the gaze of the camera.

Through this process, the exhibition seeks to destabilize the ways we look at objectified subjects and perceive subjectivity, while revealing how familiar images are manipulated and consumed. Its central methodology is to generate “strategic errors” or “glitches” through imperfect recombinations—forms that exceed or fall short of complete understanding while opening up new hybrid possibilities.

The exhibition features one earlier video work and one new video work, a series of approximately five sculptures and installations, and live sessions in which a video is dismantled and reconfigured differently each week. Beginning on Thursday, August 13, the opening day of the exhibition, three live sessions will be held in total during the exhibition period, every Thursday at 7 p.m.
