DOOSAN Art Center announced that ‘DOOSAN ART LAB Visual Arts’ will adopt a new format beginning with this year’s open call.
 
Since its launch in 2015, DOOSAN ART LAB Visual Arts has identified and supported promising emerging artists in the field of visual arts, providing a foundation for them to advance their practices. To date, 49 artists who have participated in DOOSAN ART LAB have established distinctive artistic practices and continued to actively engage with the contemporary art scene.
 
The newly restructured DOOSAN ART LAB Visual Arts will now operate on a biennial basis. DOOSAN Art Center explained that the decision was made to provide artists developing their own visual languages with sufficient time to reflect, experiment, and further develop their practices amid an increasingly competitive art-world system and the accelerating pace of the creative environment.

The five artists or teams selected through the open call will undertake an intensive year-long development process before presenting their practices through a group exhibition at the beginning of the following year.
 
During the first year, they will participate in a range of activities designed to review and expand their practices from multiple perspectives, including regular meetings with the curatorial team, individual workshops, and the production of critical texts through matching with external experts.
 
In the second year, the artists will document and share the research and exploration undertaken throughout the program through a group exhibition and catalogue publication. In addition, the grant for creative production has been increased to KRW 6 million to provide enhanced support for the artists’ creative processes.
 
Applications for this year’s open call will be accepted from September 29 to October 9, 2026, with the results scheduled to be announced in early November 2026. Further details are available on the DOOSAN Art Center website.
