Suwon Art Space Gwanggyo is presenting the group exhibition 《Expansion Pack: Artistic Research》 through December 20.
Like an “expansion pack” that adds new perspectives to an existing
game through elements such as stories, locations, characters, and items, the
exhibition examines the ways artists explore and expand their practices through
their working processes.
Since research is an essential part of the process through which
artists develop their work, the exhibition focuses not only on the shared
methodologies of collecting and investigating, but also on the shifts in medium
that occur throughout the research process.

The exhibition is organized into three sections, each offering a
perspective on how data, records, and history can be recontextualized.
The first section, “Vibrating Data: Waves and Particles”,
structures objects beyond the bounds of perception; the second, “From Records
to Narrative: Species and Forms”, traces social and cultural history through
the gaps left by systems of record; and the third, “The Axis of the Gaze:
Acanthus and Barnacles”, shifts the axis away from civilization- and
empire-centered perspectives.
Across these three sections, six artists investigate and explore
minute particles, bodily movements, documentary records, utility model
registration documents, architectural styles, and marine organisms, presenting
artistic transformations of records and source materials.

A vibrating device modeled on the laws of nature, an organically
inflating air sculpture, biological specimens that visually diagram
descriptions of form, sculptures that explore cultural topographies through
consumer goods, knots that weave together a sense of knowledge, and media works
that connect virtual spaces with the body go beyond diverse forms of media
expression, embodying the sustained time and performativity internalized
through the process of inquiry.
It is hoped that these experiments with media and modes of
thought, undertaken to rewrite narratives of the human and the nonhuman, will
serve as an opportunity to restore the time for contemplation that is
increasingly displaced by immediate responses.
