Primary Practice presents 《The Act of Loving》, a group exhibition
featuring works by AN Chorong, LEE Kang Seung, and NOH Songhee, on view through
September 19.
《The Act of Loving》
imagines a shared narrative through private archives. In this exhibition,
collecting is conceived as a form of social practice—one that gives rise to
solidarity with others and fosters relationships grounded in ethics.
According to Erich Fromm, author of
The Art of Loving, love is not merely an emotional event.
Rather, he defines love as an “art”—a capacity that must be learned and
practiced.
From this perspective, the exhibition turns
away from love understood as exchange, reduced to a commodity by market value;
from love as possession; and from forms of love that remain confined to the
fulfillment of one's own desires. Instead, it focuses on acts of love performed
through ways of being with and for others.
To this end, AN Chorong positions herself
as a mediator of photographic images by receiving, recontextualizing, and
redistributing photographs taken by others. NOH Songhee traces and collects the
traces of labor embedded in everyday life, creating cartographies that function
as negative images of larger social systems. LEE Kang Seung gathers,
appropriates, and reconfigures language, objects, and images to evoke a shared
queer desire in which the past, present, and future intermingle.
