Primary
Practice presents a solo exhibition 《Buoyancy》 by AN Gyungsu (b. 1975), on view through June 14.
AN
Gyungsu focuses on the vulnerability of individual lives in a social context
that floats without firm anchorage—like a buoy adrift. The artist, who has
previously approached landscapes from a macroscopic perspective, now turns to
capture them through a more intimate and microscopic lens, seeking to convey
the posture of individuals resisting isolated environments.

AN
presents 16 works, including his new large-scale painting Flood
(2025), which spans six meters in width, and Swimming Pool
(2025).
In this
exhibition, the gestures of figures encountered above and below the surface of
water in the painting evoke a sense of personal precarity. These bodies,
resisting gravity with drag, stage a scene of action and reaction, dramatizing
gestures of survival that strive to hold on to life amid ruin
