Coreana Museum of Art presents *c-lab 9.0 《Museum/Laboratory》 on view through March 14.
*c-lab is a long-term initiative that has explored the diverse
critical questions posed by contemporary art. Each year, the program centers on
a single theme and continues its experimental practices across
disciplines—encompassing performance, exhibitions, workshops, and educational
programs—in collaboration with artists, researchers, and curators.

*c-lab 9.0 selected “Museum/Laboratory” as its guiding theme for
2025 and 2026 in order to reexamine the experimental value of art. Last August,
the museum issued an open call for creators who would use the museum as a site
of experimentation to explore new modes of artistic practice.
The three final participants—Kim Hyun-Seok, Ahn Kwanghwee, and
Cha Ji Ryang—collectively reflected on the question, “Why does the museum
experiment?” Through ongoing discussions with matched external critics and the
curatorial team of Coreana Museum of Art, they deepened their inquiry into the
theme within the distinct frameworks of their respective practices.

Kim Hyun-Seok experiments with dismantling
language to explore the possibility of new systems of thought, while Ahn
Kwanghwee employs rap as a mode of utterance to expose the
contradictions embedded within the institutions and formats that constitute the
museum. Cha Ji Ryang transforms the museum’s spatiotemporal
framework into a site where narratives unfold, presenting stories that imagine
a museum of the yet-to-arrive future.
In addition to the exhibition, a series of programs—including
multiple performances, workshops, and listening sessions—will take place.
