OhOn, an art space in Mapo-gu, Seoul, is presenting the
exhibition 《寫生紀行》 through
November 16. The exhibition is based on a plein-air journey undertaken by
artists Park Kyung Jin, Jin Hee Lan, and Choi Hyeongjun from April to July this
year.
The three artists traveled across Paju, Bukhansan, Yangju, and
Jeonju, engaging in sketching sessions at the boundaries between nature and
place. Originally, they planned to walk along Gyeonggi Dulle-gil Trails 7–8 in
Paju, but due to various circumstances, they modified their plan—continuing the
journey by inviting one another to their chosen locations.

Having long centered their practice around
plein-air painting, the artists each captured the landscape through distinct
perspectives, even while sharing the same time and place. The exhibition serves
as both a record of their journey—a collection of scenes and sensations
encountered along the way—and an exploration of how differing gazes emerge
within shared landscapes.
Notably, the exhibition takes inspiration
from the earliest forms of travel journals, presenting “painting albums”
conceived and produced by the artists themselves. By expanding the format of
the traditional sasaeng hwacheop (sketchbook) into a contemporary artist’s
book, the project experiments with binding each artist’s journey into a
singular volume.
A travelogue composed as a preview to the
exhibition is available on OhOn’s webzine (www.ooooon.site).
