The young Korean artist TZUSOO (b. 1992) has been selected as the first artist for the 《MMCA X LG OLED Series》, a new initiative launched this year through a long-term partnership between the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) and LG Electronics.

The 《MMCA X LG OLED Series》 is a large-scale, site-specific project carried out at Seoul Box, an open exhibition space within MMCA Seoul, with sponsorship and technical support from LG Electronics. This year’s artist was selected from among candidates recommended by contemporary art experts after a concept presentation, interview, and review by a judging panel.

TZUSOO is a woman artist gaining global attention for authentic works that probe the intersection between reality and the cyber ecosystem and address contemporary issues such as identity, gender, and human rights. She works across the media of video, installation, sculpture, and painting to explore the potential of digital creation, demonstrating novel approaches that transcend existing media discourse.

Seoul Box, where her work will be displayed, is an exhibition space symbolic of MMCA Seoul in that it is first to greet visitors to the museum. Making creative use of this space, TZUSOO will stage a tension-ridden dialogue between the digital and material worlds.

As part of the installation to be exhibited the artist will screen a large-scale video of a digital organism exploring the theme of women’s procreative desires and cycle on LG Electronics’ latest digital displays in juxtaposition to an organic sculptural installation made of live moss, harkening to the cycle of life, extinction, and rebirth.

The judging panel highly evaluated the artist’s acute understanding of Seoul Box’s characteristics as both a white cube and a transition space, the original and impactful concept of her work and its appeal to the digital generation, and her method of open collaboration.

Kim Sunghee, director of the MMCA, notes, “TZUSOO’s work is expected to perfectly visualize the core values of this series: emergence and innovation. As an eloquent statement on the convergent and experimental nature of contemporary art, this project will serve as a new platform through which to redefine the borders between art, humanity, and state-of-the-art technology.”

The exhibition 《MMCA X LG OLED Series 2025》 will run from Friday, 1 August 2025 to Wednesday, 11 February 2026 at MMCA Seoul.
