Ceremony for the installation of the artworks at the 15th Gwangju Biennale ©Gwangju Biennale
Throughout the exhibition period of
the 15th Gwangju Biennale, a series of programs emphasizing an audience-oriented
perspective will be conducted in connection with the exhibition “Pansori, a soundscape
of the 21st century.” These programs are designed to promote interpretation and
participation through public programs, such as the "Children’s
Program" and "GB Talk," which are aimed at increasing public
engagement and interest.
GB Talk: Conversations with Artists
"GB Talk" offers in-depth
appreciation opportunities for the exhibitions and artworks of the 15th Gwangju
Biennale. The talks will take place five times throughout the exhibition
period, including on the designated Culture Wednesdays.
The first talk is scheduled for
September 5, featuring participating artists such as Kandis Williams, Na Mira, YoungEun
Kim, Amol K Patil, and Noel W. Anderson. Additionally, on September 14, a
workshop by artist Kim Jayi will be held at the Yangnim-dong exhibition space.
"GB Talk" is open to anyone
interested in arts and culture. For more information, please visit the Gwangju
Biennale website.
Symposium: "Echoes of Tomorrow:
Soundscapes in the Age of Advanced Computing"
An academic symposium exploring the
intersection of sound, technology, and culture in connection with the main
exhibition was held on September 8 at Theater 3, Asia Culture Center. The
symposium, co-organized with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York,
featured speakers including Marina Rosenfeld, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, and Sung
Tieu, all of whom are participating artists in the 15th Gwangju Biennale.
Children’s Program
In conjunction with the 15th Gwangju
Biennale, programs for children will be held at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition
Hall and Geosigi Hall starting from September 14 and continuing throughout the
exhibition period. The children's participation programs, "My Pan, Sori"
and "GB Little Forest," are targeted at upper elementary school
students (grades 4 to 6) and involve viewing artworks with professional docents
followed by experiential activities.
"My Pan, Sori" encourages
children to understand sound and express their unique sounds through drawings,
while "GB Little Forest" allows them to create craftworks that
connect to their own ecosystems by exploring the broader ecosystem. These
programs aim to foster a comprehensive understanding of the main exhibition and
encourage active participation. The programs will be held every other Saturday
at 10 am and 2 pm, starting from September 14.
Additionally, a children's docent
program, which teaches the basics of exhibition interpretation and
scriptwriting, will allow children to present exhibition explanations
themselves. This program will be conducted once a month during the exhibition
period, on the third Sunday of each month, specifically on September 15,
October 13, and November 10, at 2 pm. Related educational materials will be
available on the Gwangju Biennale website.
