Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Daegu Photo Biennale will be held for 60 days from September 18 to November 16 at the Daegu Arts Center and various locations throughout Daegu City.

The Daegu Photo Biennale has established itself as a leading international photography event in Asia, growing into a platform where world-renowned artists and citizens come together to engage with photographic art.

The theme of this year’s biennale is “The Pulse of Life”. Based on the concept of the Symbiocene—a vision that transcends human-centered perspectives to emphasize interconnection and coexistence among all forms of life—the exhibition will showcase more than 700 works by over 200 artists from 30 countries, spanning photography, video, and installation.

Participating artists reinterpret life as a transformative, connective, and resonant force, offering audiences an opportunity to reflect on their place and role within the Earth and their communities.

This year’s edition also marks the 35th anniversary of the Daegu Arts Center, where a large-scale exhibition will take place across the entire venue. Alongside the main thematic exhibition, a wide range of special exhibitions and related programs will be presented, creating a celebratory festival that actively engages with citizens.

The artistic director of the biennale is Emmanuelle de l’Ecotais, an internationally recognized photography specialist. She previously served as curator at the Centre Pompidou and the Musée de la Photographie de Paris, and is the founder and artistic director of PhotoDays, an international photography festival held annually in Paris.

Over the years, the Daegu Photo Biennale has built close connections with the global photography community and consistently introduced the currents of contemporary photography. This 10th edition is expected to further highlight the expansiveness of photographic art and enhance Daegu’s international standing through the universal theme of “life."
