《Art between Korea and Japan since 1945》, jointly organized by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and the Yokohama Museum of Art (YMA), is on view at the Yokohama Museum of Art through March 22, 2026.

The Korea–Japan co-organized exhibition 《Art between Korea and Japan since 1945》 commemorates the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It retraces the 80-year trajectory of artistic exchange between Korea and Japan from 1945 to the present. The exhibition’s Japanese title is 《Because We Are Always Beside Each Other: Japan and Korea, 80 Years of Art (いつもとなりにいるから 日本と韓国、アートの80年)》.

Featuring approximately 160 works by more than 50 artists (and artist teams) from both countries—including Cho Yanggyu, Quac Insik, Nam June Paik, Park Seo-Bo, Lee Ufan, Lee Bul, Noriko Hayashi, Shigeko Kubota, Minoru Hirata, Jiro Takamatsu, and Masato Nakamura—the exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the development of artistic exchange between Korea and Japan from 1945 to today.

Kuraya Mika, Director of the Yokohama Museum of Art, stated, “We hope this exhibition will serve as a cornerstone for opening a new chapter in the shared history of art between the two countries.”

Sunghee Kim, Director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, who attended the opening in person, remarked, “This exhibition offers an opportunity to revisit the historical moments experienced by both countries and the traces of exchange formed within them, allowing us to newly recognize the stature and potential of contemporary art in Korea and Japan.”

She added, “We also hope for continued interest and support for the Korean presentation of 《Art between Korea and Japan since 1945》, which will open at MMCA Gwacheon on May 14 next year.”
