Photography Seoul Museum of Art presents its third special
inaugural exhibition 《All That
Photography》, on view through March 1, 2026.
The first
exhibition to span across the entire museum space, 《All
That Photography》 showcases works from both the Seoul Museum of Art’s collection
and artists’ works that use “photography” or “photographic imagery” as a medium
of creation after the late 1950s, the point in time generally considered to be
the birth of Korean contemporary art.

This exhibition highlights photography as a
key medium that has driven the evolution of contemporary Korean art.
Photography has functioned as a creative tool that traverses painting,
printmaking, sculpture, and installation, opening new artistic horizons. Beyond
mere documentation, it has established itself as a medium that enables new
artistic thought and experimentation. This exhibition offers a multidimensional
examination of the status and expansiveness of photography.
In particular, it focuses on how these
artists—when they were emerging practitioners—used photography as a tool for
avant-garde experimentation, reinterpreting existing formal structures and
social realities. The exhibition is further significant in that it presents a
substantial selection of previously unseen works and major pieces that have
long remained out of public view, drawn from the practices of 36 leading
figures in contemporary Korean art.

Through this exhibition, Photography Seoul
Museum of Art places a focused spotlight on the role and influence of
photography within contemporary art. By doing so, the museum seeks to
reconsider the relationship between photography and contemporary artistic
practices, and to create a platform for reexamining the status of photography
in the field of contemporary art.
