Incheon City has announced that construction has begun on Incheon Museum Park, Incheon’s first public art museum, which will coexist with the existing public museum.

The city said that it plans to complete the basic and practical facilities for Incheon Museum Park in the first half of this year and start construction in the second half of the year after the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s central investment phase 2 review in June.

The Incheon Museum Park will be built on 573 Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu, with two floors above ground, one underground floor, and a gross floor area of 40,000 square meters. It is scheduled to officially open in the second half of 2027 after completion and preparations for opening.

It will house Incheon’s first public art museum and will relocate the city’s current museum in Okryeon-dong, Yeonsu-gu. Incheon is the only one of Korea’s special and metropolitan cities, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan, that does not have a public art museum.

To ensure the successful opening of the museum, Incheon plans to focus on collecting artworks and discovering contents related to Incheon’s art history. An official from Incheon City said, “We will strive to brand the Incheon Museum of Art and create citizen consensus so that it can be established as a public art museum representing the region.”
