On June
13, Hannam-dong in Seoul’s Yongsan District was transformed into a vibrant site
of artistic exchange. The inaugural edition of ‘Hannam Saturdays,’ a new
collaborative program organized by twelve galleries located throughout the
neighborhood, made its debut.
Hannam
Saturdays is a community-based initiative in which participating galleries
across Hannam-dong present their respective exhibitions and public programs on
the same day, encouraging visitors to engage with the area’s diverse artistic
offerings through a shared platform.

The
program emerged from a shared concern among galleries based in Hannam-dong.
Although the neighborhood has established itself as one of Seoul’s key hubs for
contemporary art, visitors have often experienced it through individual gallery
visits rather than as a broader cultural ecosystem.
Hannam
Saturdays proposes an alternative to this mode of engagement by encouraging
audiences to experience the exhibitions taking place across Hannam-dong as part
of a connected and ongoing artistic trajectory.
The
initiative was conceived to foster greater dialogue between venues and to allow
visitors to navigate the neighborhood’s art scene as a cohesive whole.

Rather
than creating an entirely new event, Hannam Saturdays focused on expanding the
experience of viewing exhibitions already on display across participating
galleries.
Through
exhibition tours, artist talks, and gallery-specific programs, visitors were
offered opportunities to engage with the artworks and exhibitions in greater
depth. Participants were free to begin at any gallery and explore exhibitions
and programs throughout Hannam-dong at their own pace. All exhibitions and
related programs were offered free of charge.

The
participating galleries hope that this inaugural edition will serve as the
foundation for Hannam Saturdays to develop into a long-term collaborative
program.
Through
the initiative, they aim to foster greater artistic exchange throughout
Hannam-dong and create new points of connection between galleries, artists, and
audiences.
