Art
Center White Block presents the group exhibition 《Frame
of Poem》 through June 28. Conceived to rediscover the
structure of poetry as a literary form through visual art, the exhibition
features approximately 80 works by five contemporary artists actively engaged
in today’s art scene.
《Frame
of Poem》 draws attention to the process by which
painters construct an image—much like poets select words to build lines and
stanzas. Moving beyond a simple visualization of literature, the exhibition
invites viewers to “witness” the rhythms, cadences, and metaphorical moments
embedded within painting, video, and installation works.
Participating
artists Sunyoung Kim, Mira Park, Seokmin Park, Junmin Shin, and Jihee Kim each
layer their own visual languages onto the physical spaces of the canvas and the
video frame. This exhibition attempts to shift the experience of poetry from
something “read” within text to something “seen” and sensorially encountered
before the eyes.

Through
the individual “frames” of the five artists, the exhibition visually
demonstrates the structural elements of poetry. Jihee Kim experiments with the
process by which literary metaphor becomes visual rhythm by layering images
over text, while Seokmin Park visualizes the flow between sentences through the
use of spatial composition and negative space.
Sunyoung
Kim presents the solid structure that forms the backbone of poetry through
segmented planes, and Junmin Shin translates the intense impressions and poetic
afterimages beyond form into affective waves through light and color. Finally,
Mira Park constructs narratives in which reality and fantasy intersect,
prompting viewers to trace hidden clues between images.

In
particular, the approximately 80 works that fill the exhibition space are
structured to resemble the experience of turning the pages of a poetry
collection, unfolding along the viewer’s path through the gallery.
Art Center
White Block notes that “beyond simply viewing the works, visitors will follow
the visual rhythms that emerge within and beyond each frame, encountering
fleeting moments in which images are translated into language.”
