Heecheon Kim, a young Korean media artist actively working both in Korea and internationally, has been selected as one of “7 Rising Asian Artists to Know” by Artnet News.

Last December, Artnet spotlighted seven Asian artists currently drawing attention in the global art scene through its biweekly newsletter, The Asia Pivot, offering an in-depth look into their artistic practices.

Working across a wide range of media—including 3D printing, VR, digital simulation, sculpture, and installation—the seven selected artists engage with key contemporary themes such as identity, technology and ecology, and social hierarchies. No longer confined to the regional category of “Asia,” their artistic practices continue to attract the attention of curators, collectors, and audiences worldwide.

Heecheon Kim (b. 1988), the Korean artist featured in the special, has explored the intersections of cognition, sensation, and reality in the digital age. Combining media environments generated through digital technologies such as GPS, AR, and VR with autobiographical narratives, his work addresses the blurring boundaries between virtual and physical realities. Through this, Kim reflects on how technology shapes and dismantles human experience and perception, revealing the conditions of contemporary life.

Kim has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Istanbul Biennial, the Gwangju Biennale, and the Seoul Mediacity Biennale, and has gained global recognition through solo exhibitions at major institutions such as the Hayward Gallery in London and the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
