The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), led by
Director Choi Eun Ju, will host a pre-opening program titled 《Performance and the Art Museum》 from
November 9 (Sun) to December 7 (Sun) at SeMA’s Seosomun Main Branch, its
satellite branches, and various venues in Geumcheon-gu, ahead of the official
opening of the SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art in the first half of 2026.
As the first public art museum in the
southwestern region of Seoul, SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art will present a wide
range of contemporary art forms—including artworks incorporating video, sound,
and lighting, as well as performance and conceptual art—in line with its
identity as a “new media–focused museum” connected to the regional
characteristics of G-Valley and the Gasan Digital Complex.

The pre-opening program 《Performance and the Art Museum》 focuses on
performance-based art, a genre within new media art, and aims to foster
dialogue between art professionals and the public. Beginning with this
initiative, the SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art plans to launch SeMA Performance
as an annual exhibition series following its official opening.
This program features workshops and
performances by six artists (or collectives) participating in the upcoming
inaugural special exhibition SeMA Performance: 《Breath》, scheduled for the first half of 2026, as well as a seminar
bringing together art professionals to discuss the evolving field of
performance art.

is preparing for its inaugural exhibitions in the first half of next year,
which will include SeMA Performance: 《Breath》, a special exhibition commemorating the museum’s opening and
construction, as well as a media collection exhibition. These exhibitions will
highlight the museum’s establishment process at Geumnarae Park in Geumcheon-gu,
and showcase works by leading artists from the museum’s growing collection.
The pre-opening program Performance and the
Museum accommodates 20 to 100 participants per session through advance
registration. Detailed information and reservation guidelines are available on
the Seoul Museum of Art’s official website and the social media channels of
