Amado Art
Space is presenting 《Ear Eye Mouth Nose》, a solo exhibition by
Younwon Sohn, the recipient of The 3rd Amado Artist Award, through August 9.
In this solo
exhibition, Younwon Sohn uses facial features as metaphors for observing and
engaging with spaces and forms. She presents her evolving sculptural practice
across various materials.
Expanding on
earlier works that restructured spaces through floor sculptures and
site-specific installations centered on bodily perception, Sohn now introduces
sculptural methods that examine how we sense form. These approaches connect
everyday landscapes and sounds, offering new ways to experience them.
In the ‘Floor
Piece’ series, Sohn casts floors from stairs, verandas, and living rooms where
she has lived, then relocates them to new sites. These structures adapt to the
architecture of Amado Art Space, which evokes a domestic setting. The aluminum
folding sculptures obscure their origins, appearing as geometric forms that
imprint themselves on their surroundings.
The view from
Sohn’s living room is projected onto the exterior window of Amado Art Space,
marking other spaces in a similar way. Ceramic camel cricket sculptures,
representing survival and coexistence, are placed throughout the gallery.
Ceramic head
sculptures, which only suggest a subject, remain as solitary, unidentifiable
human forms. As visitors cross the thresholds of Amado Art Space, the sounds of
daily life invite them to engage with the environment.
