The
largest monograph to date on Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, renowned for her prescient
masterpiece Dictée (1982), titled Theresa Hak Kyung
Cha: Multiple Offerings, will be published this June.
This
publication accompanies the artist’s retrospective exhibition held on January
24 at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) in the United
States. It marks the first major monograph and exhibition catalogue on Cha
since The Dream of the Audience (2001).
Theresa
Hak Kyung Cha: Multiple Offerings brings together extensive archival
materials and works spanning Cha’s multifaceted artistic practice, including
mail art, film, conceptual art, performance, and poetry.

Meanwhile,
BAMPFA presents this exhibition—its first retrospective on Theresa Hak Kyung
Cha in 20 years and the largest exhibition dedicated to the artist to date—as a
comprehensive survey of her artistic practice across conceptual art, film,
performance, and poetry. The exhibition also introduces early textile and
ceramic works that have never previously been shown.
In
conjunction with the exhibition and the publication of the monograph, BAMPFA
will host a range of public programs, including a symposium featuring leading
scholars of Cha’s work, a public reading of Dictée, and
screenings of the artist’s films and related works.
