Seoul Museum of Art presents the 2025 BEYOND exhibition 《Sonic Planet-Hertz and Dough》 on view through May 31, 2026, at Buk-Seoul Museum of Art (Buk SeMA).

Participating artists Hertz and Dough (Gyuchul Moon, Gwangmin Hong, and Sunjeong Hwang) are the first artists selected for “Artist Research,” a newly launched program at the Buk SeMA that explores how an artist’s inquiry and thinking can be expanded within the creative process. They have been conducting multifaceted research on the acoustic ecosystem, treating sound not merely as an auditory experience but as a language for understanding the world.

《Sonic Planet – Hertz and Dough》 invites visitors to move beyond human-centered auditory experiences and to closely observe the diverse sounds embraced by the Earth. Rather than trying to see more, it encourages closing one’s eyes and listening intently to the resonances of the here and now.

Two commissioned works have been specially produced for this exhibition: the sound installation Audinua 12 and the sound sculpture Auditory Strata. Proposed as spaces for listening, these works embody the results of the artists’ ongoing research and offer experimental propositions on complex listening structures, creating a setting where audiences can experience sound perception anew.

Over the course of the nine-month exhibition, performances, workshops, and talks will further expand its content and format. It is also a practical process of articulating and gathering each participant’s sounds in collaboration with various researchers, engineers, and artists. A wide range of programs is planned, including sound collection, synthesis, and performance; conversations on “listening cultures”; spatial sound design for the exhibition; and sound performances and talks devoted to planetary listening.
