Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) is hosting its annual exhibition, 2024 Title Match: Hong Lee, Hyunsook vs. Ji Hye Yeom “Fold the Time with the Ground”, at the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art until March 30, 2024. Now in its 11th edition, this year's Title Match is a two-person exhibition featuring female artists for the first time in a decade.

Hong Lee, Hyunsook, and Ji Hye Yeom, known for delivering some of the most compelling performances in contemporary art, break away from the traditional “duel” format of a two-person exhibition. Instead, they present interconnected yet distinct insights rooted in shared concerns. The exhibition includes over 35 works spanning video, installation, and painting, with four new projects debuting as part of the showcase.

Both artists share a common approach of merging physical and microscopic sensations with societal concerns. In “Fold the Time with the Ground,” they examine a world where climate change, war, and technological competition intersect, sensitively responding to the accelerating global crisis through their bodies and material-based thinking.

The exhibition highlights the interconnectedness of all beings on Earth and emphasizes the "response-ability" to maintain accountability toward one another. The exhibition showcases Hong Lee, Hyunsook's new works and related pieces on the first floor, while Ji Hye Yeom's new video works, paintings, and books are presented on the second floor.

On the first floor, Hong Lee, Hyunsook presents new works alongside related pieces that extend her exploration of the “stone” motif. These works reflect on the possibilities of solidarity that transcend nations, ethnicities, life, and death in reactionary contexts such as global conflicts and refugee crises. On the second floor, Ji Hye Yeom delves into the motif of “night,” reflecting on the explosive acceleration of the world in an attempt to reclaim lost growth during the pandemic.

The exhibition also features a collaborative sound piece created by the two artists. Through an exchange of short texts derived from their respective concerns, the piece reflects their dialogue and shared engagement with pressing issues.

Programs linked to the exhibition will be held in February and March 2025, with detailed information to be announced on the Seoul Museum of Art's website.
