Shinsegae Gallery is pleased to present “?,” a solo exhibition by Rirkrit Tiravanija (b. 1961). The exhibition marks the opening of Shinsegae Gallery’s new location in BOONTHESHOP Cheongdam.
Tiravanija has been questioning the way artists relate to audiences through her practice of distributing food such as pad thai and curry in empty gallery spaces. For the artist, the gallery is a space where individuals become social beings and a place where people can connect with each other.
The exhibition also features audience participation: you can play ping-pong on the ping-pong table and you can take a t-shirt from a pile of t-shirts. There are also large hammocks in the exhibition space where you can spend time lying down. Also, Tiravanija’s works in a variety of mediums, including gold leaf, newspaper, mirrors, and handmade tapestries are on view. All of the works on display have been created since 2010, giving audiences a chance to see some of the artist’s most recent works.
