“I am your Body: Chapter 2 – Flesh”,
curated by Seolhui Lee, who served as the co-artistic director of the Korean
Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale, is on view at Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark
until January 26.
“I am your Body” is a new exhibition series
presented for the first time at Kunsthal Aarhus. The second chapter, “I am your
Body: Chapter 2 – Flesh,” focuses on humanity, existence, and physical
properties. Six artists from East and Southeast Asia participated in this
exhibition, each exploring the concept of humanity through their unique
artistic language. Among the participating artists are Korean artists Yoonsuk
Jung and Keunmin Lee.
The
exhibition is presented across three distinct spaces. The first gallery,
designed like a movie theater, screens Yoonsuk Jung’s documentary works, Non-Fiction
Diary (2013) and Lash (2024). These films delve
into themes of human existence and humanity.
The
second gallery is an archive dedicated to early performance works by
internationally renowned artists born in the 1950s and 1960s, including Zhang
Huan (China), Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (Thailand), Melati Suryodarmo
(Indonesia), and He Chengyao (China).
The
third gallery is a rotunda which contains seven immersive paintings by Keunmin
Lee which were specially commissioned for this exhibition. The paintings feature
Lee’s personal experiences of hallucinations. These works drift between
abstraction and figuration, containing forms that resemble human body parts and
flesh.
Participating Artists: Yoonsuk Jung (KR), Zhang Huan (CN),
