Mimesis Art Museum is presenting the group exhibition 《DRAMA》 through March
22, 2026, featuring works by Dongwook Suh, Sangik Seo, and Miryu Yoon. The
exhibition begins with an inquiry into how figures in painting construct
narratives and generate emotions and relationships.
The exhibition title “Drama” evokes story structures that are
popularly consumed, such as television dramas, while simultaneously carrying a
philosophical meaning rooted in the ancient Greek word dran (to act). In this
sense, drama refers to the very way humans live: a form in which life appears
through the language of art at moments when events and tensions are condensed.

The three
artists each position figures in their paintings in distinct ways. Dongwook Suh
captures the temperature of emotion from a position closest to the figure;
Sangik Seo reveals the relationship between figure and structure from a step
removed; and Miryu Yoon constructs the origin of existence before a story takes
shape.

As viewers
move through the exhibition, they experience shifts between different
situations with each change of stage. In Act I, they enter the scene from the
position of an observer; in Act II, they step back to contemplate structure
from a distance; and in Act III, they become a presence that exchanges gazes
with the figures.
What kind of
beings are the figures within painting? As what kinds of figures do we live our
own lives? And toward what are those lives moving? This exhibition draws
viewers in through these questions.
