Nam-Seoul Museum of Art presents a group exhibition, “Weaving Relations” on view through July 7. “Weaving Relations” is an exhibition that penetrates the Seoul Museum of Art’s 2024 exhibition agenda of “Architecture,” which identifies the essential nature of architecture as the act of creating value and experience through “relating,” and examines “relating” through various conceptual approaches.
Starting from the physical foundation of the natural environment, architecture is primarily predicated on the constraints of nature and its consideration. Architecture must also have its own unique identity while reflecting the public needs of its time and society, which changes over time in response to changes in its surroundings and conditions. Architecture is created by humans, but it also has creative power, bringing new changes to humans. Thus, the essence of architecture can be said to be the act of asking and answering questions about what is valued and how to connect various elements such as human and nature, past and present, community and individual, material and immaterial.
“Weaving Relations” induces a change in the way we look at life through the works of seven artists, Mackerel Safranski, Kim Bong Su, Doi Jaena, Suh Ziu, Ahn Jinseon, Chon Jaewoo, and Ji Park, who talk in various ways about the physical space that is the basic condition for self-identification, and the ‘connections’ that occur through that space. Through these works, the program aims to awaken the dynamic value of ‘making connections’ to modern people who feel isolated and lost in identity.
