PKM Gallery is pleased to present Levitation, a solo exhibition by Koo Jeong A (b. 1967) from September 6 to October 14. Koo’s work incorporates a variety of medium, including installation, sculpture, painting, moving images, and architectural projects, to evoke a different side of everyday scenes and objects. The artist has been active on the international stage since 2012 when she created a skate park installation as part of an urban regeneration project on Vassivière Island (France). Also, she was selected as the sole artist for the Korean Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024 and will organize an exhibition centered on the theme of scent.
The exhibition features more than 20 works in various medium, including her drawings, prints, posters, books, and magnet sculptures. The exhibition is organized around ‘OUSSS’, the ‘Density’ series, and ‘Seven Stars’ series. ‘OUSSS’ is a word coined by an artist as a motif that encompasses the enigmatic universe, word, morpheme, substance, and energy. < SS Gakchal > (2023), which is related to ‘OUSSS’, is newly unveiled. ‘Seven Stars’ series takes more cosmic view of the world, moving away from previous works that used pigments that absorb light and re-emit it in darkness. The ‘Density’ series, which began as the artist’s daily drawings in 2005-2006, evolved into AR works in 2019, and in this exhibition, audiences can see three-dimensional works floating in the air using the properties of magnets.
