Paradise Cultural Foundation and Seoul National University, with support from the Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS), published “Korea Art Market 2023”, an English report on the Korean art market.

“Korea Art Market 2023” is Korea’s first English report, designed to provide the global art world with information on the various trends and issues in the Korean art market.

This report examines the trends in the Korean contemporary art and art market, focusing on various keywords such as galleries and art fairs, auctions, collectors, and museum exhibition trends through empirical analysis by art experts.

There are five articles by Korean art experts, So-Hyun Cho, Yunah Jung, Henna Joo, Seewon Hyun, and Sang-In Cho, and three interviews with gallerist Javier Peres, founder of Peres Projects, which opened a new gallery in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, last April; media artist Ryu Sungsil, the youngest winner of the Hermès Foundation Missulsang; and actress and content director Kim Heesun.

So-Hyun Cho, Team Leader of the Korea Arts Management Service, summarized the current state of Korean galleries and art fairs. Yunah Jung, Senior Specialist at Christie’s Hong Kong, then analyzed recent trends in the Korean art auction market from September 2022 to August 2023. Next, Prof. Henna Joo from Hongik University wrote an article about Korean corporate museums such as Samsung, Amorepacific, Paradise and their collections. Seewon Hyun, the newly appointed artistic director of the 2024 Changwon Sculpture Biennale, explains the Korean contemporary art exhibition trends with two keywords such as “survey” and “crafty”. Lastly, Sang-In Cho, director of the Art Policy Research Institute, profiles Korean art professionals who are making a name for themselves as the bridges of K-Art to the world.

“Korea Art Market 2023” is available for free on the Paradise Cultural Foundation website and at the Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS).
