One of the artist’s signature works, ‘Funkchestra’, a portmanteau of funk and orchestra, was first shown at Arko Art Center in 2005. The combination of provocative bold gothic letters and realistic depictions recalls the form of a traditional poster. “PLUR DMSR” is an early work in Hong’s ‘Funkchestra’ series.
The PLUR in the four corners of the work stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect, which is Hong’s persona. With women listening to techno music and enjoying themselves around the portrait of a DJ in the center, the work evokes a party scene. It expresses the stage of enjoying music through vital visual elements.
