CYLINDER kicks off 2025 with its first exhibition, the group show 《Soft Stratum》, held at CYLINDER TWO until March 1.
Featuring Rim Park, Niklas Asker, Sungho Bae, and Oh Hyunseog (NICEWORKSHOP), this exhibition defines each artist's visual language as an independent stratum. Through an exploration of the material textures within their mediums and the essence derived from them, the artists construct a multilayered and fluid landscape of strata.

Rim Park perceives biological changes—both large and small—occurring around her on a microscopic level, translating them into works that exist between painting and sculpture. She cultivates natural elements and observes them under a microscope, drawing from their amorphous energy to shape her own visual language.

Swedish painter Niklas Asker considers traditional, time-intensive painting techniques as a form of ritual. For him, painting is both a dialogue with the past and a tool for delving into the subconscious. His work focuses on blurring the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, exploring how their fusion can generate new visual expressions.

Sungho Bae repurposes discarded objects, reassembling them into anatomical specimens that resemble taxidermied artifacts. Through this process, he examines what defines and differentiates the human from the non-human and the self from the other.

Meanwhile, Oh Hyunseog, a furniture designer at NICEWORKSHOP, pursues experimental creations based on an exploration of material properties. Notably, he incorporates threaded rods—typically used in plumbing and HVAC installations—into his designs, preserving their raw materiality to create distinctive furniture pieces.
