The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s National Asian Culture Center (ACC), celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has unveiled its major exhibitions and programs for 2025.

In May, the 《ACC Future Sports Day》 will take place at ACC Creation Space 1, merging media art, physical activity, and play. To prepare for this event, the ACC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in May last year with the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) in Japan for joint research and development of convergent content. 《ACC Future Sports Day》 will feature interactive exhibition programs utilizing art technology. Participants will also be recruited to take part in the sports day activities.

From April to the first week of July, the 《ACC Regional Artists Invitational Exhibition “Lee Lee Nam”》 will be held at ACC Creation Space 1. As part of its ongoing support for the creative activities of regional artists, the ACC will present new works by Lee Lee Nam, a representative artist from the Gwangju-Jeonnam region. The exhibition explores new possibilities for contemporary art by blending the spirit of traditional landscape painting with media art.

Following this, from July to December, the ACC Creation Spaces 3 and 4 will host the 《ACC Masters Exhibition – Ryoji Ikeda》. This exhibition, commemorating the development of “sound visual art” and the ACC’s 10-year history, will reinterpret contemporary media art from a non-Western perspective, offering a landmark exhibition for the ACC’s anniversary with the globally renowned sound artist Ryoji Ikeda.

In addition, the ACC has prepared an exhibition that emphasizes its founding principles of democracy and peace, highlighting their relevance today while commemorating the center’s 10th anniversary. 《Manifesto of Spring》 is a large-scale exhibition that addresses economic inequality and the climate crisis—challenges faced in everyday life—as contemporary democratic agendas, proposing future alternatives through theories of the Anthropocene and Capitalocene.

To realize this project, the ACC signed MOUs with Germany’s ZKM and Hong Kong’s M+ Museum in October last year and hosted an international symposium on the Anthropocene and Capitalocene theories. The 《Manifesto of Spring》 exhibition will be held at ACC Creation Space 1 from September this year to February next year.

Lee Kanghyun, President of the ACC, stated, “To mark the center’s 10th anniversary, we will enhance our core functions by regularly conducting convergent exhibitions based on creation and production and developing signature performances that represent our institutional brand. We also plan to expand collaboration and communication with local artists while leading an international exchange platform among Asian countries to further strengthen the foundation for mutual growth.”
