“DMZ
OPEN EXHIBITION: PASSAGE”
is on view through November 16, at Paju Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, Peace Gondola,
and Gallery Greaves. “DMZ OPEN EXHIBITION: PASSAGE” is
part of the ‘DMZ OPEN festival,’ which aims to spread awareness of the DMZ's
ecological and peace values by utilizing the DMZ as a cultural and artistic
space.
The
exhibition examines the meaning of the DMZ through the concept of “passage” and
expands its spatial nature, illuminating the DMZ as a closed border, a
connected passageway, and a living space, rather than as a suspended or
forgotten space. The 12 artists present their own work as a “passage” to help
us view the DMZ in a new light.
Paju Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri will feature works by NAOMI, Noh Suntag, Jin-me Yoon, and Hannahlisa Kunyik. Peace Gondola will feature works by Jeewi Lee and Nho Wonhee, and Gallery Greaves will showcase works by Rondi Park, Yeondoo Jung, KiJin Park, Jane Jin Kaisen, Chan Sook Choi, and Shin Mi Jung.
In addition, participating artist Yeondoo Jung will conduct a workshop on DMZ Theater - Dora Theater Performance with local artists in Gyeonggi-do, capturing the results of the performance activities in videos and photographs that will be released in October. Chan Sook Choi will conduct a workshop with elderly people living in the DMZ area, listening to their life stories and conducting individualized work experience activities.
