Artist_Global K-Art From the Sea of Jeju to Venice and Paris : How Yo-E Ryou Creates Community Through “Breath” One Korean artist whose name appears on two major international stages this year is Yo-E Ryou, born in 1987. Ryou is currently presenting Breath Orchestra in 《In Minor Keys》, the International Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. Her selection as an individual artist for the Biennale’s International Exhibition, rather than a national pavilion, is particularly significant. At the same time, her sound project 《Echoes of the Tides》 is on long-term view at the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris through February 2027.

Emerging in the late 1940s and reaching the height of its popularity during the 1950s, it drew on Pansori and Changgeuk and combined singing, acting, dance, costumes, and elaborate stage design.

More than a conventional museum exhibition, the project was developed in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, creating a unique dialogue between the installation practice of Korean artist Haegue Yang and the music of Korean-born composer Isang Yun (1917–1995).

Biennale_News Binna Choi Appointed as Artistic Director for the 61st Venice Biennale Korean Pavilion The Arts Council Korea (ARKO) has appointed curator Binna Choi as the Artistic Director for the Korean Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biennale) in 2026. Binna Choi previously served as a curator for the 2016 Gwangju Biennale and as a co-artistic director for the 2022 Singapore Biennale. She was the Director of Casco Art Institute in the Netherlands from 2008 to 2023. She is currently serving as a co-artistic director for the Hawai‘i Triennial 2025, which runs until May 4 this year.
