The 41st Annual Domestic Art Fair: ‘Galleries Art Fair 2023’ Opens April 12

Organized by the Galleries Association of Korea, ‘Galleries Art Fair’ is Korea’s longest-running art fair, celebrating its 41st edition this year and will be held at COEX, Seoul, starting with a VIP preview on April 12 and running through April 16.

This year’s edition will be the largest ever, with 1.5 times the venue size of last year’s, using COEX Halls B and D. 156 domestic galleries will participate, showcasing 10,000 works by more than 900 artists. Galleries of various sizes will participate, including large galleries such as Gallery Hyundai, KUKJE Gallery, and ARARIO Gallery, as well as galleries that have recently joined the gallery association such as Everyday Mooonday and ATELIER AKI

Various programs will also be held during the art fair. The ‘ZOOM-IN’ special exhibition is the fourth edition of a program to discover emerging artists and will showcase a variety of works by 10 artists selected through an open call. Art talks will include artist talks, as well as lectures on the legalities of buying art, a collecting guide for beginner collectors, and how to care for and restore artworks.

In addition, ‘Gangnam Art’, hosted by Gangnam-gu Office, is a walking tour of 16 galleries located in the Gangnam-gu, and visitors can receive various freebies by collecting stickers after visiting each gallery.

As this is the largest gallery art festival ever held, it will showcase a variety of works and programs that span generations, and we hope that visitors will be interested in participating.

'The Preview Seongsu' Returns with an Upgraded Scale and Attractive Concept

Following Hannam in 2021 and Seongsu in 2022, ‘The Preview Seongsu with ShinhanCard’ will be held for the third time this year, starting with a VIP preview on April 19 and running through April 23 at S Factory D in Seongsu-dong.

The Preview, which means “preview,” is an exchange venue that introduces new galleries, artists, and works first, and is an art fair that is in line with the current paradigm shift as young collectors are becoming a major part of the art market.

It also aims to serve as an alternative and experimental art fair that gathers newly emerging small-scale exhibition spaces in one place to create contact points with the existing art market, expanding the art market ecosystem and introducing emerging artists who have difficulty securing exhibition spaces on their own.

More than 200 artists from 57 galleries participating in ‘The Preview Seongsu with Shinhan Card’ are at the forefront of trends and showcase works that have expanded into various formats. They are expanding their own unique areas in the art world and creating new identities.

Various programs such as the ‘SPOTLIGHT Project’, ‘Performance Art Program’ and ‘The Preview Talk’ which showcase notable artists, will also be held during the art fair, and young collectors are encouraged to participate.
