Istanbul’s Arter presents “Suppose You Are Not” through December 29. On the third and fourth floors of the gallery, more than 600 works by 400 artists from private collections are juxtaposed with everyday objects, books, furniture, and manufactured goods.

The exhibition focuses on the new meanings given to objects when they are transferred from private collections to museums, as well as the personal desires and aspirations of collectors inherent in the objects. The exhibition denies the customary distinction between the everyday and the extraordinary, the industrial products and the artworks, and intersects objects from different histories and contexts. In doing so, it invites the viewer to go beyond their limits and freely embrace the meaning of objects, as the title quoted from a poem by Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) suggests.
