Na Mira, a Korean-American artist born in 1982, has focused on exploring the archive and creative works of the late artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha (1951-1982). Na has engaged in various such projects over the past few years, including the video installation work Night Vision exhibited at the 2022 Whitney Biennial.

Currently, Na’s first solo exhibition in a museum is titled Subrosa and being held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson (MoCA Tucson) until October 22 (the museum is temporarily closed until August 30). This exhibition also reflects Na’s research on Cha.

Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, a Korean-American who was both a writer and artist, published her novel Dictée in 1982 and was tragically murdered in New York shortly thereafter. Na Mira’s immersive video installation work is inspired by Cha’s unfinished film White Dust from Mongolia. Other video works reconstruct Cha’s memories of Cha and Na’s thoughts, employing visual elements to reshape the collective experiences of the Korean diaspora.

The solo exhibition of the rising star artist Mire Lee (b. 1988) is being held at the New Museum in New York City. Her exhibition titled Mire Lee: Black Sun will run until September 17. This marks the artist’s first solo exhibition held in the United States.

Lee’s solo exhibition has been covered by numerous prestigious international media outlets, such as The New York Times, Artnet News, and Artforum. Reviews from major media outlets have enhanced the artist’s visibility and lend credibility to the uniqueness, creativity, and contribution of her works within the art world. Such dynamics play a significant role in an artist’s career, especially for emerging artists aiming to establish themselves in the art scene.

Mire Lee gained substantial attention by participating in the main exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2022 and the Busan Biennale 2022. She explores desire, death, fear, and more through eerie and peculiar kinetic installations that evoke the organs of animals.

Celebrating its 40th edition this year, EVA International is the Ireland Biennial of contemporary art. The event is scheduled to take place from August 31 to October 29, 2023. This year’s EVA International will feature artworks, events, and performances from more than 50 Irish and international artists across 17 venues.

Korean artists Cha Jaemin (b. 1986) and Kim Beom (b. 1963) are participating in the biennial. Cha Jaemin is a recipient of the Artspectrum Artist Prize from the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul. By reconstructing narratives into videos, her works thoroughly research and investigate specific subjects to showcase how societal contradictions affect individuals. Cha has chiefly focused on discussing labor, wages, development, and the marginalized within capitalist societies.

Kim Beom is currently holding a solo exhibition titled How to Become a Rock at the Leeum Museum of Art until December 3. Through various media, Kim Beom’s conceptual works incorporate humorous imagination into objects to create unexpected forms.
