Gwon Osang's Exhibition Makes You Feel Like Walking through a Maze: “A I R MASS: 바람이 다니는 길”
Lotte Gallery in Jamsil will present “A I R MASS: 바람이 다니는 길” a solo exhibition by Gwon Osang from May 12 to July 16. This exhibition is a tripartite collaboration between Lotte Gallery, women’s fashion brand EENK, and the artist. On May 25, a fashion show runway featuring EENK and editorial shop ELI’DEN was held among the artist’s 6-meter-high works.
The exhibition includes six new works from the “air mass” series and 12 works from the “deodorant type” series. The “air mass” series establishes a series of relationships that respond to the existing “Masspatterns” series. These are balloon-like sculptures that use inflatables that can be enlarged to enormous sizes by inflating them inside the work and were inspired by the English sculptor Henry Moore, who began by studying the abstract form(Reclining Figure) of one of the earliest modern sculptures.
The exhibition space of over 100 square meters is filed with works measuring 3.2 meters high by 6 meters wide, and mirrored columns are placed between the work to create the feeling that the space expands to infinity, making the experience of walking through a maze. The small still-life sculptures located between the ‘Air-Mass’ builds a path through the large and small sculptures, and the sense of infinite space between the sculpture created by the mirrors makes a fantastic experience of walking through a labyrinth garden.

An Artistic Exploration of the Relationship between Humans and Nature: "Spring Light," a Solo Exhibition by Kiki Smith
“Spring Light,” a solo exhibition by German-born Kiki Smith (b.1954), whose multidisciplinary work explores embodiment and the natural world, will be held at Pace Gallery Seoul from May 17 to June 24.
The artist’s first solo exhibition in Korea was held at the Seoul Museum of Art from December last year to March this year, which introduced her entire body of work to Korean audiences for the first time. Following this exhibition, Pace Gallery will present 60 works, including sculptures and paintings, on the second and third floors, focusing on the artist’s long-standing artistic exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, centered on the specific themes of water, sky, and space.
On the second floor of the exhibition center, works related to the “cosmos” will be featured. The elements that make up the universe, such as the moon, constellations, nebulae, and galaxies, are arranged throughout the exhibition. The artist’s long-standing fascination with the moon, which reflects light from the sun and illuminates the darkness, and the intriguing narratives behind each constellation and astronomical phenomenon, unfold like a nighttime landscape in the exhibition hall, guiding visitors into his mysterious world.
In the 1980s and 90s, the artist showed her works with the body as a medium, crossing various genres and media, and in the 2000s, she expanded her work to explore nature. This exploration continues on the third floor of the exhibition through the colorful elements of nature such as water, sky, flora, and fauna. Inspired by the visual culture of the past surrounding nature, the artist reveals the symbiotic relationship between nature and humans, sensing the energy of life and connecting with nature. The works in this exhibition are within this trajectory of exploration, capturing the energy and vitality of nature in full bloom, hence the title of the exhibition, “Spring Light”.
