Copenhagen Contemporary is presenting a solo show of world-renowned artist Francis Alÿs (b. 1959), ‘Children’s Games 1999-2022’.

The work is composed of more than 30 suspended screens showing playing children from every corner of the world: Mexico, Afghanistan, DR Congo, France, Hong Kong, Belgium, China, and Denmark. Children are playing with ordinary elements such as stones, coins, plastic bottles, car tires, and fragments of bone, and they reveal the universality of play which transcends national borders and cultural divides.

Alÿs has been dealing with geopolitical themes in poetic ways since the 1980s. ‘Children’s Games 1999-2022’ project was first published in the 2022 Venice Biennial.
